Sundowner Run (SDR) is 30km in length with 1200m of vertical climb and occupies an altitude window between 1600m and 2150m. The Race Start is at Castleburn Farm at 14h30 on Saturday afternoon. SDR provides runners with the unusual experience of running into the sunset and eventually the dark to provide an opportunity for many to experience night running for the first time. SDR participants will also have the potentially inspiring situation of being out on the course with many of the UTD runners as they complete the final third of their day. Athletes will climb the face of Garden Castle and summit Black Eagle Pass as the sun drops behind the iconic Rhino Peak before approaching halfway at Swiman Hut as darkness falls. From Swiman Hut the field will have 15km of night running down to the Mzimude and up Langalibalele Pass to the finish at Bushman’s Nek Hotel. SDR is aimed at teams of two runners although there will be limited availability for solo runners.
