Reventon Trail 2017 - Maratón
44.5 km 2300 m 2300 m
départ Paso De Abajo (ES)
It is the most competitive of the ReventÓN Trail categories and it was born in 2015 with the specific goal of luring the best international talent in mountain marathons. The 2017 edition will get a revamped and more spectacular course from km 33. Its 3D contour is marked by a double ascent, which begins just after the start with a full scale assault of nearly 1,000 vertical metres to the southern wall of mount Bejenao. The course then veers towards the valley of El Riachuelo and gains height abruptly, thanks to a very demanding 2 km stretch which lends its brand to the event (“reventar” means literally “to burst” in Spanish and it’s the name given by locals to this ancient section of the trail). It then lands on Pista de la Hilera, a wide forest track ideal for hassle-free running and gets to the recreational area of Refugio del Pilar, which links the race to the first leg of the world famous Route of the Volcanoes (GR 131). The course peaks by the hillsides of mount Birigoyo, crosses the sand fields of Llano de los Jables, traverses the eruption of Montaña Quemada (15th century) and dives into the narrow ravine of Barranco de La Pernada. A tunnel allows the race to cross in style the LP-3 main road, hence landing on the mild plains of Llano de Las Cuevas. But not for long, as it soon climbs up to Pista de Taganana and it crosses again the 1,000 metre mark before reaching the toy-like chapel of Virgen del Pino. From there to the finish line it becomes a virtually uninterrupted downhill, with a last modest blip at La Montañita.
